Start with your documentation and financing
Confirm identification, source-of-funds and payment requirements with your bank, notary and independent adviser early in the process. If you need financing, obtain a written assessment of your borrowing capacity before committing to a purchase.
Budget for the full acquisition cost
The asking price is only one part of the investment. Prepare an itemised budget covering applicable taxes, notary and registry costs, professional fees, financing costs, repairs and a contingency reserve.

Look beyond the neighbourhood name
